Setting up the Skywing L-39 requires precise control surface geometry and an accurate Center of Gravity (CG) to ensure a scale look with nimble, sport-jet performance. Because it shares design DNA with Extreme Flight models, you can dial in the following recommended baseline throws and radio setup:
Control Surface Throws & Expos
The L-39 has a large flight envelope and responds well to both precision and 3D-style maneuvers. Measure these throws at the root of the control surfaces:
Ailerons
- High Rate: +-25mm with 35% Expo
- Low Rate: +-18mm with 25% Expo
Elevator
- High Rate: +-20mm with 35% Expo
- Low Rate: +-14mm with 25% Expo
Rudder
- High Rate: +-35mm with 30% Expo
- Low Rate: +-25mm with 25% Expo
Flaps & Mixes
- Takeoff (Half): 15mm - 20mm down
- Landing (Full): 45mm - 50mm down
- Flap-to-Elevator Mix: Add 2 - 3mm of Down-Elevator with full flaps to prevent the nose from pitching up sharply.
- Crow (Optional): Many pilots mix a small amount of "crow" (ailerons up 3mm-5mm on full flap deployment) to improve slow-speed handling and make high-alpha landings incredibly easy.
Center of Gravity (CG)
Ensure your battery placement or fuel load brings the balance point exactly to the manufacturer's recommendation.
- CG Measurement: Measure 165mm approx. 6.5 behind the leading edge at the wing root.
- Tip: Fly the maiden flight with low rates and a small amount of Expo.
